Gorseinon primary school project
This project is being jointly funded by the Welsh Government's 21st century schools and colleges programme and Swansea Council.
The new build school will replace Gorseinon Primary school's existing buildings with a purpose built and future-proofed 1.5 form entry school. Work is now progressing in conjunction with the appointed contractor to deliver the new school build so that it is open to pupils in September 2020.
The project includes:
A new build school on one site, which will provide pupils and staff at Gorseinon primary school with a safe, sound and fit for purpose school environment that meets the 21st century school standard.
- A community room available for hire by arrangement with the school.
- A multi-use games area and car park available for community use outside of school hours.
- An all-weather pitch available for hire outside of school hours.
- The relocation of the all-new playground at Parc Y Werin.

Community benefits
The council is committed to supporting local firms and creating jobs for local people. During the proposed works, the contractor will use local suppliers, where possible, for materials and products. Contractors will be encouraged to employ local workers and offer work experience to unemployed young people.
Pupil engagement
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) engagement will form an integral part of our project. The contractor and council will work together with the school to support learning opportunities throughout the build project.
Community projects
As part of the project the contractor will be expected to support local initiatives in the area. Further details on this will be provided as the project progresses.
New playground
The new playground was open to the public from 12 July 2019. Gorseinon primary school pupils were amongst the first to use the new equipment.
Turf cutting ceremony
A 'turf cutting' ceremony took place on 18 July 2019. This was attended by Swansea Council's Leader, Rebecca Evans AM, local Ward Members, representatives from Andrew Scott Ltd and staff and pupils from Gorseinon primary school. All were able to celebrate the beginning of the works; pupils had the opportunity to see their new school from the very first day of its construction, and were able to try out the new playground.
