Electric vehicle chargepoints in car parks

There are currently 25 council car parks offering electric vehicle chargepoints for use by the public.

All of the chargepoints in council car parks provide users with 100% renewable electricity. The 25 sites offer a combined total of 78 'fast' chargepoints, meaning that the chargepoints offer 7-22kW power.

You can only charge a vehicles battery at the maximum charge rate the vehicle can accept. For example, if your vehicles maximum charge rate is 7kW, you won't charge any faster by using a 22kW chargepoint. You can still use the chargepoint, and it will provide your maximum charge rate up to 22kW.

Future developments

We aim to continue installing EV chargepoints across the local authority area. This will contribute to the Welsh Government's ambition in transitioning to a low carbon, low emission transport system in Wales, and align with the Welsh Government's Electric vehicle charging strategy (opens new window), and Llwybr Newydd: the Wales transport strategy (opens new window).

Funding has been secured for a further 44 fast chargepoints. This webpage will be updated with the details of where you can find them once they have been installed.

What if I want to charge my car at home but I don't have off-street parking?

We don't permit private electric vehicle charging cables being used to charge vehicles on the highway (on-street locations). You will need to find your nearest public electric vehicle chargepoint to charge your vehicle. Zapmap (opens new window) is a popular site to use for this.

Funding for the 25 chargepoints was secured through a combination of funding from the Welsh Government's Local Transport Fund and the Office for Low Emission Vehicles On-Street Residential Chargepoint Scheme in 2019-20.
