The posts will give successful candidates keen to develop a career in IT the opportunity to earn while they develop skills and experience.

Previous apprentices within the department have progressed to secure full-time positions within the council and have gone on to take degree courses.

The posts, along with other jobs at the council, can be found at www.swansea.gov.uk/swanseajobs

The closing date for the digital apprenticeships is Monday July 18.

Cabinet Member for Service Transformation and Deputy Leader Andrea Lewis said: "Swansea Council is implementing an ambitious digital strategy to improve the way we work across the council to better serve residents.

"Previous apprentices within our Digital Services Team have progressed to develop successful careers with IT and I'm pleased that we have further opportunities available.

"Apprenticeships are great way for individuals to earn while they learn and I would encourage those looking to embark on a career in this field to consider applying.

"Successful applicants will receive first class training and support and gain knowledge and experience across a range of the council's IT functions."

Owen Jones, who started as an apprentice with the team five years ago and now has a full-time post with the council, said: "I feel that the hands on experience and practical approach to learning you get from an apprenticeship cannot be replicated anywhere else.

"Whilst on the apprenticeship you also get a great understanding and feel for the work environment which I found extremely valuable.

"During the apprenticeship I was offered great levels of support from staff who helped guide me through the whole process."
