Coronavirus and waste collections update

Information on recycling and rubbish in relation to the coronavirus.

Kerbside bin collections

Collection times
Some collection crews will be starting their rounds earlier than usual during the current circumstances. Please therefore ensure that all recycling and black bags are placed out on the kerbside ready for collection by 6.00am on your collection day.

  • Please be reminded that tissues, kitchen roll or toilet paper used to blow nose etc should be disposed of in your BLACK BAGS only. DO NOT place these items in your green bags as they cannot be recycled and could also expose recycling staff who sort materials to the pathogen.
  • Please also follow the government advice below on disposing of tissues if you are showing possible symptoms or self-isolating with others:
'Personal waste (such as used tissues) and disposable cleaning cloths can be stored securely within disposable rubbish bags. These bags should be placed into another bag, tied securely and kept separate from other waste. This should be put aside for at least 72 hours before being put in your usual external household waste bin.'

Replacement recycling bags

Replacement green bags and food liners can continue to be requested from collection crews at the kerbside using the reorder tag and are available to collect from many local shops and post offices.

Food waste bins, garden waste bags and pink bags are now available to collect from a limited number of library outlets again.

Please phone your local outlet before visiting to check stock availability and take the correct money if planning to purchase garden bags (£2 each). You can find a full up to date list of opening and contact details for each outlet on the library pages

All recycling bags and containers can also be ordered online for delivery. Please note these may take up to 10 working days to complete.
