Right to Buy

Ending of the Right to Buy in Wales

From the 26 January 2019 Council tenants no longer have the Right to Buy their Council homes in Wales. This also applies to Housing Association tenants and the Right to Acquire. This is due to the Welsh Government implementing the Abolition of the Right to Buy and Associated Rights (Wales).

The Right to Buy had already been suspended for 5 years in Swansea from December 2014, as a measure to help tackle the lack of affordable Housing in the area, More information can be found on the Welsh Government's website.
