Problems paying your Council Tax bill

If you are struggling to pay your bill please get in touch as soon as possible so we can help.

Council Tax is a bill that has to be paid like anything else but we understand that people can get into difficulties with the payments through no fault of their own. If you are having problems, please contact us straight away. Don't just ignore it as it won't just go away. We are happy to discuss the situation and agree a realistic payment plan with you.

We can also put you in touch with our welfare help and advice team who can help you with money management and also tell you about any other benefits you could claim or if there are any discounts off your Council Tax that you might be entitled to.

I have received a reminder to pay Council Tax

If you have received a reminder letter it is because your Council Tax payments have not been paid in accordance with the instalments detailed on your latest bill.

I have received a Council Tax final notice

If you have received a final notice do not ignore it.

I have received a court summons for not paying my Council Tax

If you have received a court summons, pay the full amount shown as due before the court date and you will not have to pay additional costs. No further recovery action will be taken against you either.

I have been contacted by a bailiff or enforcement agent about my Council Tax

Once your Council Tax debt has been passed to the bailiff/enforcement agent, you need to act quickly to get in touch with them. You need to speak to the bailiff/enforcement agent not the council.
