Health visiting

The Flying Start Health Team is made up of health visitors, midwives, speech and language therapists and is supported by community nursery nurses.

Should you need to contact your Health Visitor, in the first instance please use the telephone details you have in your red book. If unsuccessful, please email flying.start@wales.nhs.uk where you can give your details for a Health Visitor to get back to you.

We are part of Swansea Bay University Health Board and work closely with core services across Swansea. The Flying Start Health Team works in partnership with Flying Start partners in Education, Local Authority and the Early Years Hubs.

Flying Start Health Visitors are able to work more closely with the Flying Start population to promote health, wellbeing and provide advice regarding public health priorities such as immunisations. Our health visitors follow the All Wales Flying Start Healthy Child Wales Programme and will make contact with you and your family at key times in your child's first four years. We provide contacts in a variety of ways including virtual consultation using Attend Anywhere, face-to-face in your home and at child health clinic. The team also run group activities such as baby massage and postnatal support groups.

The health team will provide advice and guidance on different aspects of caring for your baby/child, including monitoring of growth and development. We can provide advice on sleep, immunisations, routines, home safety and other issues related to caring for your child. Health Visitors are specialist public health nurses and are able to advise and support with public health topics such as smoking, eating well, keeping fit and health and making healthy lifestyle choices. Health visitors are able to refer or signpost onto other supportive agencies as required.
