Updates - Storm Darragh

This is our regularly updated article on the impact of Storm Darragh in Swansea.

Food banks and other food support

There is a range of food support available in Swansea for those in need, from food banks and food share to ready-made takeaway meals, sit-down meals and community shops.

The majority of the food banks operate via a voucher and / or referral system: please do not let this put you off accessing this help when you are in need. The agencies that can help you with a referral or voucher may also be able to help provide additional support, including accessing benefit or debt advice.

Anyone can find themselves in a crisis situation, so please do not feel embarrassed about asking for help. The 'Hope in Swansea' app is also a useful way of finding out what help to access food is available on the day you need it.

Food banks v food share

Food banks are emergency provision for people who are unable to afford food, the majority of food banks operate via a voucher and / or referral system.

Food share is a way of preventing food from being wasted and ending up in landfill, it is not limited to those who are food insecure and is a way of accessing cheap / free food if you need it or want to prevent food waste. No referral or voucher is needed, and a contribution may be asked towards the cost of arranging the food share if you can afford it.

Donations

Donations are always welcome. Contact the organisations directly to see how you can help.

Food hygiene standards
