Copy of birth, marriage, civil partnership and death certificates
Certificates can only be issued for births, deaths, marriages or civil partnerships that took place in Swansea.
All forms are available in Welsh - click on 'Cymraeg' in the top right corner of your screen.
This page is for ordering copy certificates where a birth, death, marriage or civil partnership has already been registered. If you need to register a recent birth or death, please see pages Registering a birth or Registering a death or contact us on 01792 637444. Certificates will be available for purchase and issued at your appointment.

Please note that you do not need to make an appointment if you are applying for a copy of a certificate and you do not need to provide any identification.
If there has been a legal adoption, the birth certificate can only be obtained from the General Register Office (opens new window).
What information will I need to have when applying for a certificate?
Births
- the name of the person at the time of birth
- the date and place of birth
- the name of at least one parent

Deaths
- name of the deceased
- the date and place of death
- the date of birth or age of the deceased
- any other information eg last address/occupation/name of spouse

Marriages
- names of both parties to the marriage
- the date and place of marriage
Civil Partnerships
- names and addresses of both parties to the civil partnership
- the date and place of civil partnership
How can I apply for a certificate, what will it cost and how long will it take?
Online
You can order a certificate online for a fee of £12.50 per certificate. The application will be processed within 15 working days. The certificate will be sent by second class post.
For our priority service we will process your request within 24 hours. The certificate will be sent by first class post. This service is not available between 23 December - 4 January.
The fees and processing timescales have been set by the General Register Office for England and Wales.
By Post
To apply by post you can send us a letter containing the relevant information.
All certificates are £12.50. Certificates are sent by second class post. If you would prefer to receive your certificate by first class post, please enclose a stamped addressed envelope. Payment can be made by cheque or postal order to be made payable to 'The City and County of Swansea'.
Postal applications will be processed within 15 working days of receipt.
Priority same day service - £38.50 fee per certificate.
Additionally, we are currently unable to deal with requests for family history certificates that require searches.
Certificate to be posted on - £12.50 fee per certificate. These applications will be processed within 15 working days. Certificates will be sent by second class post.
By Telephone
You can order a certificate over the telephone for a fee of £38.50 per certificate. We will complete your application form over the telephone and process your payment by debit or credit card. The certificate will be sent out by first class post.
