Early language development

Parents have the biggest part to play in their child's development.

The Early Language Development Team (ELDT) workers offer a range of support for you and your child. We encourage parents to join in with their child play during our sessions. Activities include: free play; arts and craft; messy play and much, much more.

We offer:

  • One to one play sessions for children aged 0-3 years and their parents or carers. They are delivered within your home fortnightly. The sessions focus on developing children's communication, language and literacy skills through stimulating play activities. The sessions encourage positive play experiences and interactions between parents/carers and children.
  • Parent and toddler - you can have fun reading, singing and playing with your child. Sharing ideas along the way with other parents, carers and professionals. The sessions support children to learn through play and develop their language, communication and social skills.
  • Wellcomm screening for all 18 month olds - a screening tool looking at your child's language development.
  • Baby massage - for parents who have a baby between 6 weeks to 8 months. Promoting bonding and relaxation.
  • Baby yoga - this is a follow on from baby massage.
  • Baby chatter - working with the Speech and Language team to encourage and promote your child's language development.
