Suppliers guide helps keep business local

A NEW online Swansea Council Suppliers' Guide has been launched to help keep money in the local economy.

The new directory is aimed at local suppliers and others wanting to do business with the council and is packed with information about how to win business with the council.

David Hopkins, Cabinet Member for Delivery and Operations said the guide is designed to be a simple, straightforward guide that's aimed at encouraging local business to seek contracts with the council.

He said: "Swansea Council spends tens of millions of pounds every year in the local economy. We're already doing a lot of business with local firms employing local people but we want to make it even easier for more businesses in our area to bid for work with us.

"The new directory has been designed as a resource to help companies and organisations that are looking to procure goods and services with us. In doing so we hope it will be a boost for local jobs and the local economy too."

The guide is aimed at suppliers and contractors who want to supply the council with goods, services or works. It'll help them understand how the council procures goods and services and identify the places where the council advertises its contracts.

It will also help guide businesses through the processes the council has to follow in buying goods and services such as quotations, tendering procedures and awarding contracts.

Cllr Hopkins said: "Doing business with the council is what the guide is about. We're keen to challenge perceptions that it's difficult to do and de-mystify the process for those businesses which perhaps have never done business with us before or never thought of giving it a go."
