Tenants being kept safe during pandemic by council repair team

Housing maintenance teams in Swansea are continuing to assist council tenants with emergency repairs at their homes during the coronavirus pandemic.

Since Wales went into lockdown in March the emergency repair team has been on stand-by the whole time and has responded to more than 1,000 call-outs, tackling issues such as boiler failures, burst water pipes or faults with electricity supplies.

Many of the repairs were completed as part of Swansea Council's 'out of hours' service with teams going the extra mile to ensure council tenants have access to normal home comforts.

In the last week alone more than 320 emergency repairs were carried out along with 14 adaptions.

Andrea Lewis, Cabinet Member for Homes and Energy, said: "Our housing and building services team are responding to a wide-range of domestic repairs. Not all are considered emergencies but where an emergency repair is needed, we are doing our best to get to them as quickly as possible - no matter what time of day it is."

"We all still have to observe social distancing for the safety of tenants and our staff. The feedback we've had has been very positive. We've had messages of thanks from tenants that have recently had work completed and it's nice to know they appreciate our efforts."
