You can take more things to our recycling centres

OUR city's recycling centres are to extend the range of materials they'll accept from Thursday 4 June. All five centres will be back to a near normal service in terms of the recycling materials they'll take.

Recycling Centres Reopen

Strict social distancing measures will still be in place, black bag waste will not be accepted at any site and the Tip Treasures shop at Llansamlet will remain closed for the time being.

Mark Thomas, Cabinet Member for Environment Enhancement & Infrastructure Management, said the new changes have been made possible thanks to the support of local residents.

He said: "Our recycling centres have been here for Swansea and the re-opening of their gates has gone very well. We want to thank residents for listening to our advice and have limited their visits, only using the facilities when it's been essential.

"We'd also urge people to avoid peak times such as the weekends to minimise traffic problems and queuing times"

Swansea Council reopened the doors to its five recycling centres in the city following a relaxation in some of the restrictions related to the coronavirus pandemic. Around 1,200 visitors a day have been making use of the service across the five sites.

"We put plans in place to initially manage demand and traffic, through limiting the different types of items which could be taken to the sites, only accepting those large items which are the most difficult to continue to store at home.

"Due to residents responding to our messages, and respecting the need for social distancing, we have had a successful reopening of all sites."

"The priority is still to ensure that the sites remain open, but that they are a safe environment for site staff and residents. We've made a few changes to the layout of the sites to maintain social distancing and I'm very pleased with how things are going so far.

"It's important that residents check our webpages so they know exactly what items can be disposed of at each of the five sites."
