Swansea's sister city Nantong sends PPE to help

Swansea has taken delivery of a consignment of personal protection equipment from Nantong, a sister city in China.

Goggles and facemasks were delivered to the council at Guildhall late last week and they'll be used by council staff in frontline roles dealing with the Covid-19 crisis.

Rob Stewart, Leader of Swansea Council, said: "I want to thank our sister city for this generous gift, delivered in recognition that the pandemic is something which affects us all.

"Coronavirus is no respecter of international boundaries and this gift of PPE is gratefully-received. The council has sufficient supplies for its staff on the frontline, but this consignment will make an important contribution to keeping them topped-up."

A spokeswoman for Nantong's Foreign Affairs Office said: "This pandemic affects many countries and only by cooperation can we defeat it.

"Nantong is concerned with Covid-19 outbreaks in Swansea, our sister city in UK.

"Though we are still in short of epidemic prevention materials, it is our will to render a helping hand within power and fight against the virus together.

"We hope that Swansea can win this battle and resume normal life very soon with joint efforts of your government and all citizens."
