Extra staff helps boost business grants payments

SWANSEA Council has drafted-in additional staff to assist in processing applications from businesses in Swansea that have applied for business grant support.

The council has paid out more than £30m over the last fortnight or so to more than 2,300 eligible small businesses. Following the completion of the majority of applications, the team will now be focusing on applications where queries have arisen.

Queries which have arisen have included cases where application forms have only been partly-completed or the wrong account reference has been submitted. In some cases businesses that have applied may have applied under one name but are known to the Council under another name and need to be checked out.

Rob Stewart, Leader of the Council, said: "Businesses which have yet to receive payment are likely to be in one of these categories and we want to reassure them we are processing these as quickly as possible.

"We understand businesses' anxiety about these issues and having worked through the majority of applications, we've drafted in more staff to help sift through those applications where questions remain.

"Our team will be contacting these businesses to obtain further information so applications can be processed quickly."
