Free event has lots of money saving tips

A FREE event providing useful information that could save people in Swansea money and help them avoid rip-off money lenders and scams is being held on Friday (November 8).

A range of experts will be on hand at Swansea Working's Money and Jobs event at the Grand Theatre on Friday.

There is an open invitation to drop-in anytime between 10am and 2pm to find out more.

There will be help on hand for people to get the best deals from energy suppliers, advice on low cost and no cost tips on energy saving, information about the 30 hour free childcare offer for parents and benefits assistance to ensure people are receiving all they are entitled to.

Staff from Swansea Working, the council's employability service, will be on hand to highlight the support available to help people prepare for work and search for jobs.

Representatives from the local Credit Union will also be present, there will be advice on how to make household budgets stretch further and information about how to avoid illegal money lenders and scams and how to manage debts and borrowing.

Alyson Pugh, Swansea Council's Cabinet Member for Better Communities, said: "We know many individuals and families in Swansea struggle day to day to make ends meet and I'm sure they will find practical help and advice on the day.

"Christmas can be a particularly stressful time financially, so it's really important to protect yourself and others from harm and again there will information available.

"People can drop-in anytime between 10am and 2pm and they will be made very welcome."
