End of term recycling tips for students

We hope you had a great year in Swansea! It's nearly time to move out, but what can you do with all that waste you need to get rid of? Remember, your waste is your responsibility, so it's important to deal with it correctly the same as any other time of year.

Kerbside collections

Firstly, recycle what you can using our kerbside collection service, making sure to put everything out in the correct bags on the scheduled day. More recycling bags are available to collect from local shops and university campuses.

Black bags and non-recyclable waste

Excess black bags can be disposed of at Clyne or Llansamlet Recycling Centre but you must make sure there are no recyclable items inside. Please note you must book ahead before visiting our Llansamlet site. This is not needed for Clyne.

If you are unable to place your black bags out on the correct day and weeks or take items to the recycling centre, please speak to your landlord or letting agent to see if they can assist.

You may be able to come to an agreement whereby you can leave these bags in the front garden of your property for them to place out on the kerbside the evening before the correct collection day. Or they may be able to collect and clear this waste on your behalf for an agreed fee.

Recycling centres

Clyne Recycling Centre, is a short drive from Swansea University's Singleton campus and accepts a large range of items that cannot be collected at the kerbside including small electrical items, clothing and much more.

Do not place these items out for kerbside collection - doing so is flytipping, a serious offence!

Clyne and our other centres can also accept the materials collected at the kerbside if you are unable to put these out on the appropriate day before vacating your property.

Reusable items

If you have reusable items you no longer need such as kitchen utensils, clothes, small electricals etc then please consider donating them to a charity or reuse organisation or offering them for free collection on an online platform.

Get it sorted!

Make sure to follow this advice or you could be leaving Swansea with a fixed penalty notice! If you can't comply, check with your landlord or letting agent to see if they can help.
