Environmental Noise Action Plans and Quiet Areas

The Welsh Government has produced a Noise and Soundscape Action Plan for Wales 2018 - 2023. The action plan describes how and why environmental noise is managed across Wales

Section 12 of the Action Plan is devoted to noise management in the built up area of Swansea and Neath Port Talbot.  It includes Swansea Council's commitment to managing noise through the planning process.  Particularly the need to "take noise maps, priority areas, quiet areas, and other tranquil urban green space into consideration when a noise-sensitive or noise-generating development is proposed.  LDP Policy RP 1 provides the planning policy framework to address this.  The Action Plan also includes a map of Quiet areas for the Swansea/NPT area  [ add this link - "Quiet Areas Swansea/Neath Port Talbot"   https://gov.wales/quiet-area-map-swansea-and-neath-port-talbot

Quiet Areas are tranquil public places valued by the local community. The Quiet Areas identified within Swansea are listed below together with information about the location of Swansea sites and the reasons for designation is also provided.

Priority Areas are clusters of residential properties experiencing high levels of environmental noise, usually due to road or railway noise. At these locations it is hoped to achieve a reduction in noise levels where practicable.  Further information on Priority Areas can be found on the WG website and in the Noise Action Plan.
