Primary partners at Swansea Grand Theatre keeps on growing

More than 1,200 local primary school children from twenty four schools across the county have taken to Swansea Grand Theatre's stage to perform in Primary Partners, a joint venture with Gower College Swansea.

Pupils from diverse backgrounds have come together to showcase songs in English, Welsh and British Sign Language and participating primary schools include Hafod, Dunvant, Lon Las, St Illtyd's and Blaen Y Maes.

Primary Partners, now in its eighth year, was the beginning of an ongoing partnership between Gower College Swansea' Performing Arts department and Swansea Grand Theatre back in 2011. The first year saw a handful of schools performing on the stage for one night only; this year Primary Partners has taken place on four consecutive nights to accommodate the volume of schools it now attracts, with many more keen to be involved in the future.

In addition to the schools' on stage performances, this year has seen the introduction of foyer entertainment, also provided by students, including a ukulele and a guitar group, and an art exhibition in the theatre's White Room.

Swansea Grand Theatre's manager, Paul Hopkins commented:

"The theatre is extremely proud of our partnership with Gower College Swansea and the growing success of Primary Partners is testament to our       commitment to community involvement and encouraging access to the arts for everyone in Swansea. We are looking forward to a five night programme next year."
