Age Cymru's Gwanwyn festival of arts and creativity for older people, now in its 13th year, is supporting an event at the Swansea Council-run city centre venue. It is one of more than 50 similar events taking place across Wales this month.

Robert Francis-Davies, the council's cabinet member for investment, regeneration and tourism, said: "It is really lovely for the gallery to be part of this festival and we look forward to welcoming all visitors!

"There will be workshops led by the gallery's over 55s and asylum seeker groups who will introduce visitors to their work at the gallery.

"There will be an opportunity to go behind the scenes of this fabulous city gallery and visit the conservation studios where we look after Glynn Vivian's collection.

"There may even be some dancing!

"Art is for everybody so we're delighted to be hosting this Gwanwyn event. All over-50s are welcome!"

"I urge those over 50 to consider attending this event - it should be wonderful.

"As we celebrate our 50th anniversary as a city, this Age Cymru initiative is a lovely way for local people to celebrate the creativity for which Swansea is so well known."

The Gwanwyn Festival provides opportunities for older people to become involved in the arts and creative activities such as painting, photography, music, drama, storytelling, literature, dance or film.

It celebrates the opportunities that older age can bring about - a chance for older people to learn and try new creative experiences which is reflected in the name Gwanwyn, meaning springtime in Welsh.

It promotes the benefits of exploring creativity and participating in the artistic and cultural life of local communities.

Age Cymru arts and creativity programmes manager Kelly Barr said: "I suspect that this year's festival is going to be one of our most successful to date with each group offering a unique and exciting perspective.

"The event being held by the Glynn Vivian is a great opportunity for the over 50s in Swansea to get creative."
