Applications are invited for the post of Head of Primary Phase Unit (lead challenge adviser) to lead education improvement across Swansea primary schools.

Over the next three years we want to support Swansea schools' leaders to drive improvement by:

  • developing a high quality education profession;
  • working collaboratively to raise standards;
  • providing a curriculum to focus on excellence, well-being and equity, and
  • supporting peer-evaluation within a self-improving system.

We are now seeking to recruit a highly successful professional to lead our committed team of challenge advisers. Candidates should be headteachers from successful schools and/or have recent demonstrable success as an education improvement professional. 

The successful candidate will fulfil the role of lead challenge adviser for primary schools in Swansea and will work closely with ERW consortium partners to:

  • lead Swansea Council's constructive challenge and support to schools' leaders and governing bodies, and
  • work effectively with the ERW consortium and other key delivery partners in developing support for professional learning, including leadership development and curriculum reform. 

The post will commence on 1 April 2019 (or as soon as possible after that) and may be a permanent post or a secondment opportunity (maximum of two years) based on current salary. For a secondment opportunity, consent must be sought from the governing body to apply for the post.
