Tens of thousand discovering the delights of Swansea by night

TENS of thousands of potential visitors from across the UK are being encouraged to discover a new adventure in Swansea Bay this year.

The council's tourism team is once again working alongside local businesses to place Swansea Bay firmly at the top of the list for a holiday or short break in 2019.

Almost 50,000 people have watched an exciting new video which forms part of a campaign targeting London and other major cities across the UK encouraging commuters to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life and escape for a break in Swansea Bay.

The 'Discover New Horizons' video was launched on New Year's Day and forms part of Swansea's 50th anniversary celebrations. The Year of Discovery Campaign will feature such delights as night-time paddle-boarding on Swansea Bay, walks in the woods of Penllergare and experiencing culture in the city.

Robert Francis-Davies, Cabinet Member for Investment, Regeneration and Tourism, said: "Our tourism industry supports more than 5,700 jobs and attracts more than £417m of spending by tourists every year so it's vital that we are in the market place, sharing our stories and showcasing the many destinations there are in this part of the world.

"We're working with local tourism businesses to promote the area and offer new and exciting experiences for visitors to enjoy in this Year of Discovery. If you're living in a busy city, then Swansea Bay can be the perfect place to escape for a coastal short break or holiday to re-charge the body and mind."

A new guide called 'Discover Things to do in Swansea Bay' is also being launched and features attractions, activity providers and food and drink partners. The Guide is distributed across Swansea Bay and UK target markets aimed at potential visitors to the area, whilst also providing information and inspiration to those already staying in Swansea Bay.

As well as the video, social media followers are soaring with more than 75,000 Facebook fans liking Visit Swansea Bay's Facebook page and there's been a 9% increase to 16,000 in the number of Twitter followers. also generated an impressive 1.6m page views in 2018.
