During 2018 hundreds of novices have taken the plunge and discovered the benefits of the internet for the first time with help from free Get Swansea Online courses.

Although the internet is a part of everyday life for most Swansea residents, thousands are still not online and are missing out on everything from cheap holiday deals to staying in touch with friends and family.

There are 15 new beginners courses up for grabs in January at a number of venues around the city and a further 15 courses starting in February. Each course is completely free of charge and lasts for five sessions.

Feedback from sessions so far show that well over 90% of participants intend to use the internet to access and develop hobbies and interests, keep in touch with friends and family, and access council services, with many more keen to use their new found skills to take advantage of online savings.

Elaine Connors, who has just completed a course, said the course had proved very useful, as when she started she had not touched a tablet but she was now confidently exploring its capabilities.

Pamela Mackenzie added: "I would recommend that anyone new to tablets attended one of these courses as soon as possible rather than muddle through and not reap the full benefits available."
