Get your skates on!

Festive fun lovers who seek a more relaxed environment when skating on ice are being offered accessible sessions on Swansea's Christmas rink.

Relaxed, accessible skating sessions - new this year at the city's Waterfront Winterland - are ideal for those who would benefit from a more relaxed environment or require some additional support to enjoy the Admiral Ice Rink.

The sessions, with static lighting, lower sound levels and fewer skaters, take place at 12.15pm on Tuesdays, 4pm on Thursdays and at 11am on Tuesday 1 January.

Wheelchair users can take to the ice with a companion skating for free.

Also available, after being a big hit last year, is a small colony of fun skate penguins; these push-along devices can help children who may be unsteady on the ice. They don't need to be pre-booked and are available on a first come first served basis with a £5 hire fee. Minimum age for skating is three years.

South Wales-based Sayers Events and 11th Hour are managing Waterfront Winterland on behalf of Swansea Council.

Norman Sayers, of Sayers Events said: "We want everybody to have a great time on the ice rink; that's why we have the fun skate penguins and have introduced the new relaxed, accessible sessions. A Swansea Christmas wouldn't be complete without a trip to Waterfront Winterland - it's a magical attraction."

This year the Admiral Ice Rink has a roof for the first time. Tickets are on sale now for the rink at the heart of Waterfront Winterland, which is entertaining thousands on Museum Park until January 6.

The attraction features a family funfair including a traditional carousel and a 33m-high giant wheel, offering expansive views of Swansea Bay and the city.

The food area features a new grill unit for burgers and sausages, a confectionary unit for sweet treats, coffee and crepes, and a new bar from Swansea business Juniper Place.
