Sign-up for city's Special Festival

ENTRIES are now open for this summer's Swansea Special Festival.

Special Festival

First introduced 38 years ago, the annual Swansea Council event is open to anyone with physical or learning disability.  It covers a full range of ages and abilities from competing athletes to those just looking for a fun and relaxed way to get involved in sport.

The swimming competition on July 10 will be based at the Wales National Pool off Sketty Lane, whilst Swansea University International Sports Village will host the athletics on July 11.

Medal ceremonies will be held for the gold, silver and bronze medallists in each event but as the festival is fully inclusive, all participants will receive certificates.

There are also plenty of opportunities to socialise with a variety of entertainment in the evenings of 9, 10 and 11 July, including 10-pin bowling, a live music act and a karaoke evening.

The event is supported by the Special Festival Committee and a dedicated team of volunteers, including Llanelli Sea Cadets, Swansea Lions Club, GSL 7th Swansea Scout Group, Swansea Harriers and Swansea Young Sports Ambassadors.

Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council's Cabinet Member for Culture, Tourism and Major Projects, said: "This is a fantastic annual event that benefits everyone who takes part in so many ways, ranging from the social side of the festival to the healthy sense of fun competition it generates."

The deadline for entering is Friday June 8. Email special.events@swansea.gov.uk  or call 01792 635428 for an application pack.
