Find out answers to the most common questions we get asked about adopting a bench.
Unfortunately, we have had to temporarily suspend new applications for adopting existing benches due to a backlog of orders. The application process will be reinstated as soon as possible but, at present, we cannot provide a specific date. Applications for donating new benches will remain open during this time. What is the difference between adopting a bench and donating a bench?
An existing bench can be adopted whilst a new or replacement bench is donated.
What happens if a bench is not available in the desired location?
If there is no availability in the desired location, then a member of the Parks team will discuss alternative locations in the hope of finding a suitable one.
What does the cost include?
The cost for donating a new or replacement bench includes a new bench, suitable base, installation, stainless steel plaque (engraved with the word of your choice).
The cost for adopting an existing bench includes the bench, installation of a stainless-steel plaque (engraved with the words of your choice), refurbishment of the bench prior to adoption and maintenance of the bench at our discretion.
What happens after the 10 year period ends?
The Parks section will contact the client towards the end of the 10 year period to discuss a further adoption period.
What happens if my contact details change after adopting or donating a bench?
It is the responsibility of the client to notify the council of any change of contact details.
Is the price subject to VAT?
The donation or adoption of a bench by a private individual is not subject to VAT. However, the donation or adoption of a bench by businesses or organisations is subject to VAT.
How long does the process take?
Once an enquiry is received via the online form it will be processed as soon as possible. A member of the Parks team will be in touch to discuss the location of the bench. Once the location and type of bench has been agreed, the process normally takes 26-30 weeks from cleared payment to installation, in exceptional circumstances the process time may exceed 30 weeks.
How are the payments processed?
Once the location and bench type have been agreed an online payment link will be emailed for the payment to be processed. If online payments cannot be processed then telephone payments can be arranged with the Parks section.
