Representing the Army, Navy and Air Force, the cadets will accompany the Lord Mayor at engagements marking ceremonial events such as Armed Forces Day, Remembrance Day and Commonwealth Day.

Army Cadet Corporal Jenson Griffiths from Mansleton is a year 11 pupil at Ysgol Gyfun Gŵyr. Praised for his fundraising efforts, particularly for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal, his commanding officers cited his commitment and leadership qualities in nominating him for the position of Lord Mayor Cadet.

Navy Able Cadet Grace Horton from Killay is a sixth-form pupil at Olchfa Comprehensive School. Grace has been a Sea Cadet since the age of 13 with her commanding officers citing her dedication to training and supporting events such as the city's vintage car show, the Swansea Bay 10k and the Wales Air Show in her nomination.

Air Force Flight Sergeant Catrin Cornelius from Townhill is a student at Ysgol Gyfun Gŵyr. A keen sports-woman and gifted musician, she played for HM Queen Elizabeth II with the British RAFAC Band at the Tower of London to signify the start of the Queen's Jubilee. Catrin was also cited for her charity work in her nomination, having raised thousands of pounds for organisations such as Maggies, WRU injured players fund, Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and RAFA Wings Appeal.

Jenson, Grace and Catrin were appointed Lord Mayor Cadets at a special ceremony at Swansea's historic Guildhall.

Lord Mayor of Swansea, Cllr Mike Day said: "'In appointing the Lord Mayor's Cadets, I am delighted that the Council is recognising the work in the City's youth organisations.

"The cadets will support Lord Mayors at future civic occasions and represent the connection the city has to the cadet forces.

"I congratulate Grace, Jenson and Catrin for having been selected for this coming year, and I look forward to standing alongside them at civic events."
