School Organisation - Proposal to amalgamate Blaenymaes and Portmead primary schools consultation document (pupils)
In September 2027 (2 and a half years from now) the council wants to make Blaenymaes Primary School and Portmead Primary School into one big school, so that they can share teachers and ideas.
What does the Council want to do?
- In September 2027 (2 and a half years from now) the council wants to make Blaenymaes Primary School and Portmead Primary School into one big school, so that they can share teachers and ideas. Children will keep going to school in their usual school buildings though.
- We want to do this to help us with future plans for 2031 (6 years from now) as we want to open a brand-new school building on land near to the existing Blaenymaes Primary School. This will mean children who are currently in Nursery and Reception will go to the new school building instead of where they go now. Children in older year groups will be in comprehensive school when the new school is built.
Why does the Council want to do this?
- By making the two schools one school before the new building is ready, it will mean the teachers can help each other and become one team before they move into the new school building, and
- We can work with you and your teachers to plan for the new school build.
What would this proposal mean?
- In 2027 Blaenymaes Primary School and Portmead Primary School will become one school but stay using the same buildings that are used now so not much will change for pupils.
- You are likely to have the same teachers and other staff working with you.
- In 2031 the plan is that the school will then move from the old buildings into the new school building near Blaenymaes Primary School.
Did you know?
The UNCRC (United Nations Convention on the Rights of The Child) is a worldwide agreement that says all children and young people have rights. Article 12 of the UNCRC says that children and young people have a right to have their voice heard and listened to in decisions that affect their life. We think this should include decisions about your school.
What happens next?
- Councillors will meet on 18 September to find out what people said during the consultation period. They will then decide whether to go to the next stage of the proposal.
- If they decide to go ahead, the next stage is called the 'Statutory Notice' period. A notice will be sent to your parents/carers and other people interested in the school. The notice will explain what the proposal is about and what people can do if they do not want the proposal to go ahead.
- Councillors will meet again after that to talk about what people have said about the notice and decide what to do next.
