Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education - SACRE

All local authorities are required to constitute a Standing Advisory Council for Religious Education, known as a SACRE, within their local area.

These pages are available for information to schools and the wider public about:

  • the work of a Standing Advisory Council for Religious Education (SACRE)
  • the teaching of religious education in schools and any materials to support the effective provision of RE in schools
  • collective worship in schools and any materials or documents that support the effective provision of collective worship in schools.

The Role and Composition of SACRE

The purpose of a SACRE is to advise the local authority (LA) on matters related to religious education and collective worship in state maintained schools.

Religious Education

In this section you will find copies of the agreed syllabus for RE and documents that support the effective teaching of religious education such as schemes of work and resource lists.
