ways to foster

already fostering?

Then you’ve already chosen to make a difference to the lives of children.

Becoming a foster carer is big decision to make but choosing the right fostering agency is equally important.

So, why choose Foster Wales Swansea? Children and young people are at the heart of everything we do. Why? Because they matter. We support and empower our foster carers so they can build bright futures for local children.

We are a not-for-profit organisation responsible for placing Swansea children with local foster carers. Fostering with us ensures that you will have Swansea children live with you.

Fostering with independent fostering agencies can often mean having children placed with you who are from out of county, resulting in a lot of transporting to schools and contact with family.

Foster carers who work with Foster Wales Swansea help us to better understand what our children really need. In addition, we will work with you to understand what you need as a foster carer to be the best you can be in your role. It enables us to embed local networks of support and better encourage positive connections to a child’s locality, including their schooling and time with birth family and friends. By providing what you need to support the child in the best way possible, means there are better futures for all involved. By working directly with us – the people responsible for the children in your care – we will be better informed to ensure you get the advice, training and support you need to do this. We value our foster carers.

benefits of fostering for Swansea

As we are responsible for placing Swansea children with foster carers, our in-house foster carers are approached first whenever we need to place a child. It’s only when we can’t find the right match within our foster carer cohort do we then approach independent fostering agencies to see if they have suitable foster carers.

Fortunately, we are able to place over 80% of children needing a foster placement with our in-house carers. We know our in-house foster carers really well, in terms of their skills, strengths and experience. This means that we can get the right match for both the children and foster carers.

We take pride in putting the children at the heart of everything we do which is why we take a holistic approach to their needs by working as a team around the child. We work side-by-side with both the foster carers and the children’s social workers; it helps create better outcomes for the children.
