Benefits for those who are of working age

Benefits for those who are of working age includes the new benefit, Universal Credit, which replaces Working Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, Housing Benefit, Income Support, Income-based Jobseekers Allowance and Income-related Employment and Support Allowance.

The Discretionary Assistance Fund

The Discretionary Assistance Fund offers payments or in-kind support to people needing urgent assistance and where there is an identified need to safeguard health and wellbeing.

Benefits for those who are sick and disabled

Personal Independence Payment (PIP) replaced Disability Living Allowance for those aged 16 - 65 from 8th April 2013 and is designed to help with the extra costs of disability or long term health conditions. Disability Living Allowance remains for children aged under 16 and those who are aged 65+. Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) is the sickness benefit which replaced the former Incapacity Benefit and Income Support for sickness in 2008.
