Counting down to the 2017 High 5 Awards

The countdown is on for the final of the High 5 Awards 2017 for inspirational youngsters.

High 5 Awards 2017

Around 400 unsung young stars of our communities have been put forward for the honours as individuals, as a member of a group, or as a school class for making a difference in their own lives or to their families, schools or communities.

Due to the high quality of entries, everyone nominated will now be recognised with a special certificate from High 5 and many will be honoured with a Highly Commended on their certificate for their efforts.

Judges have also selected a list of finalists worthy of an extra special reward.

Those they have shortlisted will be contacted in the next few weeks and invited to attend the High 5 Awards ceremony on October 12th where winners will be announced and presented with a certificate and prizes by High 5 Ambassador and Swans star Leon Britton.

Leon said: "We are enormously grateful to all the nominators for sharing such amazing stories of children and young people who individually or as part of a group or class have worked so hard.

"It's truly humbling to hear how they are making the best of their lives or making life better for others despite challenges in their way.

"It's only right that once again this year everyone nominated will have a High 5 certificate and those who did not quite make the finalists list are recognised with a Highly Commended.

"The judge's task of selecting finalists was harder than ever this year because the quality of entries was truly amazing.

"Every young person put forward should be very proud of what they have achieved."

It's the sixth year that the Swansea Council-led High 5 awards have been held.

This year there were 129 entries for individuals and 27 nominations for groups or whole school classes.

The High 5 Awards are organised by Swansea Council, sponsored by Gower College Swansea, and supported by Swansea City FC, Rotary Club of Swansea, Swansea Building Society, Swansea Lord Mayor's Office, Stenor, Day's Rental, Swansea Council Recycling Team, The LC Swansea, McDonalds, Go Air Trampoline Park - Swansea, Gower Activity Centres as part of Swansea Young Peoples Services and CPR Global parent partner to WATCHU.
